this is formal request for discussion (rfd) for the creation of a
world- wide, unmoderated usenet newsgroup

viewable through regular news readers (such as vnews, rn and nn),
without requiring the use of uudecode, troff, tex or such, to view the
document.

discussion will have to be discarded.
rationale: rec.arts.tv.uk.emmerdale
currently, discussions on emmerdale and related topics have been taking
place in selected threads of rec.arts.tv.uk.coronation-st and in
rec.arts.tv.uk.misc. demand from emmerdale fans seems sufficient to
warrant the creation of a separate group.
according to data supplied by 'barb' for the week ending 17 march 1996,
emmerdale was fourth in the itv top ten programme charts, with 14.84
million viewers in the uk.(coronation street took the first 3 places).
emmerdale has become so popular over the last 18 months, that there is a
strong possibility of transmission on three nights a week, soon.
for the week ending 24 march 1996, the official barb figures show
emmerdale in fifth position of popularity for all british tv channels.
emmerdale can also be seen in canada, new zealand and at all british
forces bases including germany, hong kong and cyprus and 500 episodes
have just been sold to finland.
charter: rec.arts.tv.uk.emmerdale
this newsgroup will be open to discussion on all topics relating to the
british television show, emmerdale, which is shown in the uk, canada and
other countries.
content:

general discussion of previous and future storylines
episode reviews and comment.
discussion of newspaper stories of cast and characters.

end charter.

the discussion period for the creation of this group will be underway
from today, 3 april 1996, for the next 21-30 days. during this period
comment on the group proposal should be posted directly to the newsgroup
'news.groups'.
at the end of the 30 day discussion, there will be a call for votes
(cfv).
this rfd has been cross-posted to the following newsgroups:
news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, rec.arts.tv.uk.coronation-st,
