palmsup10-31-2003, 04:55 pmlooking for screen protectors for my tj35. any out there yet? or do i have to cut them down to size?
thanks for your feelings.
hotpaw410-31-2003, 06:44 pmi made my own screen protector for my tj35 out of thin (5 mil) clear vinyl which i bought a a local fabric store for less than a dollar. sticks by some force similar to static-cling, no adhesive needed. i cut using a paper template made by photocopying the face of the pda, apply in the bathroom where the humidity keeps the dust down, and rub a tiny amount of wax on top of the vinyl screen protector to make it slicker (my preference). these homemade binyl screen protectors often for last months.

i have theirs for my sj-33 and i like them a lot.
flesh9910-31-2003, 07:35 pmtaking some quick measurements you could use an sj series screen protector on it, but sony has some for sale on their site as well if you want exact fit!
wldc10-31-2003, 10:21 pmtry going to sony's website
www.sonystyle.com
i actually like the screen protector with the privacy filter
slvrfalcon00711-30-2003, 04:37 pmi just got the 35, and i got the sj22 covers, i compared its screen with the 35, and they are identical, i have yet to put em on
davetn11-30-2003, 06:58 pmi'm using the same screen protectors that i used on my t-615c. they're by fellowes and work ok.
david
slvrfalcon00711-30-2003, 06:59 pmdo they fit the whole screen, and have you sent your 35 off yet
davetn11-30-2003, 09:13 pmyes, they fit the whole screen from top to bottom left to right and cover the grafiti area as well. tip, make sure your screen is completely clean and free of any lint. before applying. smooth out all obvious bubbles. you will have some bubbles left over, don't panic or get frustrated. after a coulple of days of use, they "absorb" and disappear. i have only one tiny bubble left in mine, and i tink its due to a small piece of lint.
i called sony on wednesday about my backlight and the rep told me that i would have to wait until monday for them to send me a box. (because they take a long weekend for thanksgiving) now, if they send it monday, will it arrive on tuesday? i'm getting really frustrated with sony. if the box gets here tuesday, i probably won't be able to ship it until wednesday. they'll get it thursday and someone'll probably get around to fixing it by friday. crap, it'll be christmas before i get it back.
sony--customer service--- yeah we'll see. what am i supposed to do without a pda until then?? i have had one form or another pda for almost 10 years now. i don't even know how to pencil something into a paper datebook!! do they translate grafitti?? ohh, withdrawals i can feel them now. i think i'm going into pt's.
davetn
send me pda's quick
skawtnyc11-30-2003, 10:26 pmactually, i'm using the belkin screen overlays for my old t615c. the screen size is the same between the t, the sj and the tj series.
it was nice to have screen protectors ready and waiting for me when i opened the box of my new tj-35.
slvrfalcon00712-01-2003, 01:27 pmfinally put on the sj screen protectors, identical size, however i kept getting a monkey load of air bubbles, can i take it off and crease it out again, or will that ruin the adhesve
skawtnyc12-01-2003, 03:21 pmyou'll very likely end up ruining the protector that way - lots of dirt and hair can float in when you do that - not to mention fingerprints.
my suggestion is to not worry about the air bubbles - they do smooth out on their own with use.
this is one of the reasons for following the directions carefully on the stick-on screen protectors. i know it doesn't look that great at first, but after a few days it settles in and looks very clear.
echobravo12-02-2003, 06:11 amthe 12 pack of write rights i bought for my sj22 fit my tj25 perfectly when i upgraded monday. i ruined 2 write rights as i got the process down. now they go on pretty nicely. i do have a few bubbly spots... but i'll take the advice of someone above and see if they disappear in a couple of days.
if somebody makes a completely clear screen protector though, i'm there. the beauty of my 25's screen is somewhat hidden by the protector... which makes it look like the resolution is lower.
glenathon12-07-2003, 05:59 pmi'm with hotpaw4 on this one. they charge a crazy amount of money for a piece of clear vinyl that you can cut up yourself for a fraction of the price.
i took his advice and bought a square yard of the stuff, a ruler, and an exacto knife for under $5. spent 10 minutes cuttin' it to size, and boom, yer done. now i have about 40 screen protectors outta the one sheet for pennies in comparison.
phild12-08-2003, 09:43 amglad to hear someone else has tried this. either of you up to posting a picture so the rest of us can see how these homemade protectors look? also, how well do they stay in place?
thanks,
phild
glenathon12-08-2003, 10:26 amunfortunately, i don't have a camera to take a pic of it, but i can say that i haven't had any problems with it so far.
i put the vinyl in place 2 days ago and haven't had any difficulty with clarity or with the vinyl moving around. the friction alone is enough for the piece to stay on without issue. the wax coating was a nice touch because a piece of plain vinyl tends to be a *little* too sticky for my tastes. being a power-user, my stylus needs to fly without any restriction and the wax really helps. :)
it does create some smaller bubbles on the screen initially. nothing really worth mentioning in my opinion tho'. they will probably disappear after a few days of use. again, with as much as i use it, if it was a hinderance, i wouldn't even bother with it and just bite the bullet and buy the pre-cut ones. :)
hope this helps! i'll try and get some pics for ya. hopefully i'll get a digi-cam for x-mas. :d
phild12-08-2003, 11:02 amthanks for the information. i hope you do get your camera, i would love to see one of these. by the way, what type of wax are you putting on? to me it seem like this would make it opaque. just curious
again, thanks,
phild
glenathon12-08-2003, 12:29 pmto be honest...i happened to have a candle sitting right next to me as i was doing this little project. i really don' t know what kind of wax it was, but i figured i'd give it a shot. it was a very soft wax. soft enough that i can smear it on without it clumping up on me.
what i plan on doing next time is wiping the wax on prior to the application of the vinyl...then wiping it off, just to give a clear coat....like you do with a car. then, applying the vinyl to the screen. i probably shoulda done that in the first place, heh.
live and learn i s'pose.
hotpaw412-08-2003, 11:43 pmthe amount of wax needed can be microscopic. often i just rub a wax candle with the tip of my finger, rub the screen protector with my finger, then wipe lightly with a cotton cloth. no mess, no goop.
phild12-09-2003, 10:58 amokay, you guys have me curious enough that i am going to have to try this! thanks for the information. i will let you know how things work out! it may be a few days before i get a chance to get the vinyl though.
thanks,
phild
wkf212-18-2003, 05:24 pmi have used screen protectors from nushield, they retain the same "feel" as the original. these do not stick on they slide inbetween the case and the screen. (once you have done it, it really is easy, a bit tricky the first time) they come in a pack of 3 (over a years worth) for about $12.00.
their website is:http://www.nushield.com/products_main_sony.htm
choose the tj35
while you are there, i always purchase the screen cleaners featured at a reduced $$, i think they were $1.99 for a set of 3 wet & dry wipes.
hope this helps - bill :)
minaw03-04-2004, 06:12 pmtried the vinyl trick and like it so far. lots of bubbles, need to try again when the vinyl is a bit warmer than before. 25 cents for enough vinyl for around 15 covers!
