congressman david dreier, joined his republican colleagues today in filing a discharge petition that calls on the house democratic leadership to restore earmark transparency rules to the higher standard that was in place in the previous congress. h.res. 479 would restore republican-lead earmark reform that would apply transparency to appropriations, authorizing, and tax bills, and allow any member to challenge any earmark on the house floor. the discharge petition needs 217 signatures to force a vote on h.res. 479.

congressman david dreier, today helped offer a gop motion that would fully fund the state criminal alien assistance program (scaap) at $950 million and provide additional funds to the department of justice’s immigration law enforcement programs, including investigative, prosecutorial, and incarceration programs. the motion, which was offered before final passage of the departments of commerce and justice, and science, and related agencies appropriations act for fiscal year 2008, h.r. 3093, failed by a vote of 209 - 215.

congressman david dreier, offered an amendment today to increase by $55 million the amount provided for the state criminal alien assistance program (scaap). the amendment to the departments of commerce, justice, science appropriations act for fiscal year 2008, h.r. 3093, was also sponsored by congresswomen zoe lofgren (d-ca), linda sanchez (d-ca), congressmen duncan hunter (r-ca) and john carter (r-tx). it was approved by a vote of 388-39.

congressman dreier, applauded news today that the federal budget deficit will be nearly $40 billion lower than originally projected and less than half than what it was at its peak in 2004. according to the white house, the reason for the significantly lower projection is an increase in tax revenue collections.
