scotland’s first adage power 150 blog
published on october 22nd, 2007 13 excellent comments »
my humble blog is scotland’s top entry into the adage power 150.
the power 150 is a ranking of the world’s top english-language media and marketing blogs. the positions in the list are calculated using google’s page rank, subscriber data from bloglines, technorati back-link info and a subjective total from todd andrlik (who created the original power 150).
todd’s subjective score is a ranking out of 15, for which i score 13. it’s based upon the frequency, relevancy, creativity and quality of the blog content. the use of audio, video and graphics is also considered. thanks very much, todd.
i’m ranked in the top 50 blogs, at number 46, between clickz and the marketing and technology blog.
i contacted charlie moran (who manages the list) to thank him for including my blog. i’m very grateful to be in some fine company, and the extra traffic is much appreciated too. every entry in the power 150 list is allocated the flag of their country, and i had an english flag beside my entry. so i asked if it was possible to change my associated flag to either scottish, or northern irish. don’t get me wrong, i’ve nothing against the english (except for a few politicians), but i’ve been living in scotland for close to 10 years now, having moved here from my home country of northern ireland. i didn’t really expect the flag to be updated, but it’s testament to charlie and todd for keeping the list as fresh as possible. thanks again guys.
at the time of writing, only one blog from the uk and ireland ranks above mine, and it belongs to russell davies. i’m sure there are quite a few other uk blogs out there, that should be above mine, and if you have any in mind i’d appreciate you mentioning them in the comments on this post. credit where credit’s due.

it’s fair to say i’m well chuffed to be sitting at number 2, and i wouldn’t be where i am without you guys, subscribing, reading, commenting, conversing and making me think. your feedback over the past year has brought me to where i am today, so thank you.
if you haven’t seen the adage power 150 before, and have an interest in marketing and media, i highly recommend checking out some of the blogs that make it.
other people talking about the power 150:
mike sansone at converstations
andy beard, niche marketer
robert gorell of grokdotcom
reference guides like the power 150 are excellent promotional tools, and generate a lot of buzz. just ask daniel of daily blog tips who has created a few similar lists of his own, such as the top 25 web design blogs, top 25 blogs about blogging and the top 25 seo blogs.
keep up the great work, daniel, and again, thanks very much to every one of you who reads my little blog.

world wildlife federation ad campaign

it’s not very often that i see an advertising campaign i instantly appreciate. that’s the power of imagery, and the power of targeting our environmental responsibilities.
this paper towel dispenser shows an ad campaign for the world wildlife federation (wwf), and the strapline reads:
save paper • save the planet
the idea is that the more paper towels you take, the less […] continue reading…

the environment is under more threat today, than it ever has been, and responsibility lies with all of us for doing what we can to help. here are three very simple steps that designers can take to help the environment.
reduce electricity. switch off at the mains, and don’t leave appliances on standby. how many times have you left a […] continue reading…

how to create interactive pdf forms

when dealing with clients, a designer should gather as much information as possible before beginning a new project.
one way to collect important client info is to provide online questionnaires, like the logo design questionnaire on my hire page. the form can be downloaded as an interactive pdf, so my clients have the ability to answer important questions in their […] continue reading…

i’ve been running this blog for about 12 months now, but that’s not to say i didn’t have an online presence beforehand.
i thought you might like to join me on a journey through my past website designs, where i showcase what used to act as my online graphic design portfolio. be warned, however, as it’s a bumpy ride through […] continue reading…
